Online Continuing Education

Course Description

This program is offered for .3 CEUs or 3 hours of continuing professional development (Introductory Level: Professional area). Price: $75.00

This course is designed to give information to educators to help their language disordered adolescent clients connect their intuitive real world processing with classroom learning. Adolescents who struggle in school sometimes function much better in their out of school activities where they apply effective language processing and learning strategies.

For instance, when the coach presents a new play in football they remember that play much better than do their academically superior classmates. Even when adolescents appreciate this strength, being able to remember plays in football, they often do not realize that they are doing something that would be helpful in school learning and/or they don't know how to transfer this kind of learning to the classroom. Such youngsters need to become aware of their practical learning strategies, to appreciate that these ways of learning can also be helpful in school and to have explicit guidelines for proceeding as better school learners.

The Author's Ten Active Learning Principles will be presented.

Participants will be able to:

  • Identify the 10 Active Learning Principles
  • Recall examples to transfer the learning principles to school
  • Recall real world examples of the learning principles
  • Recognize the educator's role in eliciting the active learning principles
