Michael E. Groher, Ph.D. is well known for his extensive clinical efforts in behalf of dysphagic patients. He began his career in Seattle under the mentorship of Dr. George Larsen, one of the first speech pathologists to address the needs of dysphagic persons. Dr. Groher then moved to New York where he was the assistant chief of audiology and speech pathology at the VA Medical Center. In 1990 he was appointed service chief at the VA Medical Center in Tampa Florida. He was Clinical Professor and Associate Chair in the Department of Communicative Disorders at the University of Florida Health Science Center for several years. He is currently Professor of Communicative Disorders at Redlands University in Redlands California.
Groher serves as an associate editor for the journal Dysphagia (Springer-Verlag) that serves as an important source for research information on dysphagia as reported by many related disciplines. Dr. Groher is an American Speech-Language-Hearing Association Fellow, and is an active member of the Dysphagia Research Society. He has lectured and published extensively both nationally and internationally on the topic of adult dysphagia management.
Dr. Groher is best known for his text, Dysphagia: Diagnosis and Management (Butterworth-Heinemann). He also has combined with Dr. Robert Miller on an important text for the speech pathologist working in a medical setting, Medical Speech Pathology (Contemporary Program), and with Dr. Michael Crary on The Introduction to Swallowing Disorders (Elsbuier)
